The short version
We collect only what we need to make Hank useful. We don't sell your data or crowdsource your fishing locations. Lake names or locations you include in a Hank message are processed by the AI providers described below. If you've read nothing else, read that.
This policy applies only to Nako.ai (this website) and the Hank web chat on Nako.ai. It does not apply to other independent products or services.
What we collect
Conversation data. Messages you send to Hank are sent to Nako.ai servers and to a third-party AI provider to generate responses. Conversations are stored server-side in Supabase under a browser device-session identifier (device_id) — even if you never provide a phone number. Each time your conversation is saved, only the most recent 60 messages are kept; this write-time cap does not mean the stored conversation row expires or is deleted automatically.
User profile. If you provide information about your experience level, preferred lakes, or fishing style, it may be stored both in your browser's local storage and in our Supabase database to personalize Hank's responses. Server-side records are looked up by device_id. A device_id identifies one browser device session — it is not a login account, and it does not provide cross-device sign-in, sync, or recovery.
Phone number (optional). The site may ask for an optional phone number. If you provide one, it may be saved alongside your profile, conversation, and analytics records. Your phone number is not verified with a one-time code, is not used as a login credential, and cannot be used to restore your data on another device.
Usage analytics. Nako.ai runs its own usage analytics, stored in a Supabase events table. Each event may include: the event type, event data, your device ID, an optional phone number, the page path, and your browser's user agent. We use this to understand which content and features are useful.
Location data. If you use the location feature, your browser's coordinates are used locally in your browser to match the nearest lake. Raw coordinates are not sent to Nako.ai servers and are not included in chat or analytics payloads. Our analytics may record that the location feature was used or declined, and the name of the matched lake.
Your fishing spots
Secret spots are sacred. Any lake name or location you share with Hank is used to answer your question — it is not assembled into a map of user spots and is not shared with other users. We have no interest in crowdsourcing fishing locations, and our business model never depends on it.
How we use data
- To generate Hank's responses to your questions
- To remember your preferences so Hank doesn't ask the same questions twice
- To maintain your conversation history on the same browser
- To understand feature usage and improve Nako.ai using the usage analytics described above
AI providers
Hank's responses are generated by third-party AI providers that process your messages. The default provider is Google Gemini. When enabled by runtime configuration, an OpenAI provider may also be used as an alternate or fallback — so your messages may be processed by more than one provider.
Third-party services
Nako.ai relies on the following services:
- Vercel — website hosting and serverless execution
- Supabase — database for conversations, profiles, and analytics events
- Google Gemini — default AI provider for Hank's responses
- OpenAI — alternate or fallback AI provider, only when enabled by runtime configuration
- Open-Meteo — weather data
- USGS Water Services — water-gauge data (temperature, level, flow)
- solunar.org — solunar (sun and moon) data
- Nominatim — lake-name lookup; when our local lake database has no match, our server sends the lake name as a query string
- Google Fonts — page typography; your browser fetches font files directly from Google's servers
- Upstash — rate limiting, only when configured; processes per-IP request counters to enforce usage limits
When you ask about a lake, Nako.ai may use the lake name you provided or a curated lake record to determine coordinates. If the curated list has no match, the lake name you provided may be sent to Nominatim. The resulting coordinates may be sent to Open-Meteo, USGS Water Services, and solunar.org. Raw coordinates from the browser location feature are not sent to those services.
Affiliate links
When Hank recommends a product and you purchase it through a link, we may earn a commission. This does not affect the price you pay. Affiliate relationships do not influence which products Hank recommends — recommendations are based on what fits the conditions.
Data retention and deletion
We don't set fixed retention periods. Conversation saves keep only the most recent 60 messages, but the conversation row, profile row, and analytics events currently have no automatic, code-level expiration. You can request access to or deletion of your data at any time by emailing hank@nakoshop.com or via our contact page. We don't currently offer self-service export or an account dashboard.
Children
Nako.ai is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Nako.ai after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
